The study measured 24,000 participants over a three-month period and was focused on employee mental health issues. The findings are part of an initiative that WPO plans to share quarterly to identify global workplace wellbeing trends.

Key Challenges Facing Employees Worldwide

Depression is the main cause of disability worldwide.1 In Europe, an estimated one out of every 10 employees takes time off from work each year due to depression.2 In the US, depression is the reason for 200 million missed days of work each year, at a cost of $31 billion in revenue.

• 6 in 10 workers in major global economies are experiencing increased workplace stress; China (86%) experienced the highest rise in workplace stress.

• Nigeria, South Africa, El Salvador, Mongolia, Guatemala, Colombia, Pakistan, Jamaica, Macedonia, and Bolivia top a list of most stressed-out countries.

• 90% of respondents to an academic survey of workplace mental health condition in Hong Kong said they need better support at work

• Studies suggest that 50% – 60% of all lost working days in Europe can be attributed to work-related stress and psychosocial risks.6

Years of experience have shown us that every customer experience is unique and that each customer is the final arbiter in everything we do. We don’t measure success by how rigidly we comply with our processes. It’s whether we make a meaningful difference to the person we’re serving. In other words, our customer experience metrics can’t be just about doing things right. They have to measure whether we’re doing the right thing.
